The Rosatom State Nuclear Energy Corporation is planning to initiate cooperation with the Organizing Committee for WorldSkills Kazan 2019 and the Young Professionals (WorldSkills Russia) Union, the official representative of the WorldSkills movement in Russia. The trilateral agreement of understanding was signed today on the sidelines of the St Petersburg International Economic Forum 2018 by Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov, Director General of State Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom Alexei Likhachev and Director General of the Young Professionals (WorldSkills Russia) Union Robert Urazov.
“Under this agreement, Rosatom will give support to both the competitions and the WorldSkills Kazan 2019 agenda,” said Director General of the Young Professionals (WorldSkills Russia) Union Robert Urazov. “While young people from all around the world will be competing in a range of skills, government officials, businesspeople and education workers will discuss major issues and pressing changes in the field of personnel training as part of the conference programme.”
For vocational workers, the WorldSkills Competition is comparable to the Olympic Games. Over 1,600 Competitors and more than 1,500 Experts from more than 60 countries are expected to come to Kazan. 56 skill competitions will be contested. They are divided in six sectors: Construction and Building Technology, Information and Communication Technology, Manufacturing and Engineering Technology, Social and Personal Services, Transportation and Logistics, Creative Arts and Fashion.
As the host nation for WorldSkills 2019, Russia will move beyond the standard set of events. The Competition proigramme will also include such Russian novelties as FutureSkills, a 10,000-square-metre area featuring careers of the future, and WorldSkills Juniors, a large-scale competition for 14-16-year-old schoolchildren.
“For Rosatom, WorldSkills is not just a sport of records but a tool for assessment and development of the general level of workers’ expertise and increase of their engagement,” said Director General of State Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom Alexei Likhachev. “This process involves the development of personnel training system that will ensure Rosatom’s competitiveness. The major stake in the project is placed on the buildup and development of industrial exert community. Rosatom will act as a partner for WorldSkills Kazan 2019 because it is a significant event for development of all areas of Russian economy. The Competition will allow us to see the performance of over 1,600 Competitors from more than 60 countries and to estimate the efficiency of their training system for addressing job tasks of international standard. Moreover, the Competition’s conference programme will bring out and analyze key trends of skills development in the context of changing national and global markets.”
The Young Professionals (WorldSkills Russia) Union is the official representative of the WorldSkills movement in Russia. Its mission is to improve the national personnel training standards. 85 Russian regions joined the movement. Since 2013, WorldSkills Russia has been staging nationwide skills competitions that brought together almost 100,000 Competitors, and the best of them helped Russia to top the team standings at WorldSkills Abu Dhabi 2017 and EuroSkills Gothenburg 2016. In 2019, the WorldSkills Competition will be held for the first time in Kazan (Russia), and in 2022, the EuroSkills Competition will be hosted by Saint-Petersburg.
Apart from organizing competitions, the Young Professionals (WorldSkills Russia) Union is involved in introduction of world standards to the secondary specialized education and higher education systems. In 2017, about 14,000 graduates of technical schools and colleges in 26 regions of Russia took t in WorldSkills Russia demonstration skills. In fact, these boys and girls underwent Russia’s only independent skill assessment. Based on results of these exams, students received Skills passports, and employers got access to a structured database with information on skill level of young specialists. In 2018, Skills passports will be given to up to 30,000 students.
WorldSkills Kazan 2019
Kazan was granted the right to host the 45th WorldSkills Competition after winning a vote by the WSI General Assembly in Sao Paulo (BRA) on August 10, 2015. The competition will take place in Kazan in August 2019. The main aim of the competition is to attract the attention of society to vocational occupations, increase their prestige and provide conditions for creating high professional standards. The 45th WorldSkills Competition is expected to bring together over 1,600 Competitors and more than 1,500 Experts from more than 60 countries.
Among the organizers of WorldSkills Kazan 2019 are WorldSkills International (WSI), Agency for the Development of Professional Communities and Skilled Workers (WorldSkills Russia) and Directorate for Sports and Social Projects (Kazan).
