On-site construction of the skill competition areas has finalized and Kazan Expo International Exhibition Centre is now set to host WorldSkills Kazan 2019. The Competition is to kick off on 23 August, following the Opening Ceremony in the evening of 22 August.

Kazan Expo, resting on a plot of 58 hectares, has been constructed especially for Tatarstan’s capital city to host WorldSkills Kazan 2019. A covered elevated walkway connects Kazan Airport and the railway station with the venue, which has already been tested by the organizers and visitors of major events that had taken place in the grounds.

“Since the complex opened, it has successfully played host to several large-scale events with thousands of visitors. Nevertheless, we have taken special attention to consider the peculiarities of each skill, the requirements of power supply, traffic, lighting, security and to build up mini manufacturing areas to comply with world’s standards,” said WorldSkills Kazan 2019 Project Executive Emil Gubaydullin. “The readiness of the skill areas and service zones has been tracked in real-time mode, at the stages of construction, equipment delivery, and venue testing.”

Jane Stokie, Director of Skills Competitions at WorldSkills International, commented that “the status of the build-up is excellent. Workshop Managers and Competition Organizers have invested an enormous amount of work to put it together. The skill management teams will be able to execute a quality world-class competition”.

Multiple arrangements have been made at the Kazan Expo on the run-up to the opening of the event. During the Competition, the venue area will be divided into six clusters (A, B, C, D, E, and F) to host 56 skills, as well as the Future Skills and WorldSkills Juniors competitions, and three service clusters (K, L, and M).

“Considering all the factors, we expect this event to become the greatest ever in the history of WorldSkills International. The total space of all the clusters exceeds 18,300 m2. For the first time, apart from 56 Competition skills, a separate zone has been constructed for the Future Skills, a project focusing on advanced training of the workforce for hi-tech manufacturing. It will hold competitions in 25 skills. Furthermore, WorldSkills Juniors project will host competitions in 13 skills, ten skills more than in Abu Dhabi 2017,” noted WorldSkills Kazan 2019 Technical Delegate Alexandra Fedorova.
