The Executive Committee of the city discussed the preparation for hosting guests of the WorldSkills Kazan 2019.
Today, preparation of catering enterprises of Kazan for the WorldSkills Kazan 2019 was discussed by the Executive Committee of the city. Reception of tourists as part of the Competition, accreditation of catering enterprises of Kazan and conditions for obtaining the Visit Tatarstan “must-visit” pin, as well as methods for improving the operation of cafes and restaurants in the main language of the Competition – English were brought up for discussion, as informs the Press Office of the Kazan City Hall.
As the Head of the Tourism Development Committee Daria Sannikova noted, the event provides all tourism enterprises with an opportunity to demonstrate the capabilities and potential of the city as a whole. “About 1,600 young professionals from more than 60 countries of the world will come to our city to compete for medals in one or another Skill. More than 1,500 experts will officiate the event. Obviously, this event is very significant for the hospitality and tourism industry”, she said.
At the same time, the flow of tourists during the Competition will not be limited to four days of the Competition and the Opening and Closing Ceremonies, according to Maxim Denisov, Deputy Director General of ANO Directorate for Sports and Social Projects. He explained that the main flow of guests is expected from 15 August to 1 September. In addition to the main WorldSkills Competition, the competitions among juniors, which will unite about 280 Competitors in 12 Skills. Also, about 380 Competitors and Experts in 27 Skills will take part in the Future Skills and Future Skills Show, where the skills of the future will be demonstrated. In addition, the WorldSkills International Conference will be held on the days of the Competition at the Kazan Expo International Exhibition Centre. The Conference will bring together about 1,200 Competitors.
Regarding the Competition period, about 16,000 Competitors and guests will visit Kazan, according to Maxim Denisov. The majority of them will come from Europe and Asia. Thus, the largest delegations are expected to represent China, Taiwan, Korea, Japan, Russia and Brazil. “In terms of accommodation, it is assumed that Competitors will stay in the Universiade Village, the rest of them – in hotels of Kazan. Most of them are concentrated in the central part of the city. In addition, we received recommendations from the Organizers related to catering. They recommended to increase the number of the Asian cuisine items, vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free dishes in the menu”, Denisov appealed to Kazan caterers.
To provide guests with the maximum variety of offers, Kazan decided to create a unified list of restaurants that will meet all the requirements of hospitality. Sannikova recalled that this format of work has proven itself well during the World Cup in the city. Dilbar Sadykova, Director of the Center for Development of Tourism of the Republic of Tatarstan, told more about the receipt and advantages of the accreditation of Visit Tatarstan. She emphasized that accreditation does not involve another check and imposition of sanctions, on the contrary – it is completely free.
Thus, in addition to filling out an application, restaurants and cafes will have to undergo examination for the presence of English-speaking staff, menu translated into English, effective business license, website and social accounts, which are available in Russian and English. “Accredited enterprises receive a sticker, certificate and top-priority promotion throughout the year”, she drew the attention of caterers to this information.
“One of the urgent problems that we keep facing is the lack of knowledge of foreign languages among staff members. We see the solution of this issue in attracting students from specialized higher educational institutions to work at public catering enterprises during the Competition”, said Sannikova. Zufar Gayazov, Chairman of the Board of the Association of Caterers and Hoteliers of Kazan and the Republic of Tatarstan, told in detail about this initiative. The idea was supported by the First Deputy Head of the Executive Committee Rustem Gafarov, who recommended creating a working group together with the university rectors to discuss a similar organization of student practice.
“I consider such large-scale events to be held in our city as an intangible investment in the tourism business”, Gafarov said and reminded caterers of the National Competition “Young Professionals” in May.
The WorldSkills Kazan 2019 will be held in Kazan on 22-27 August. Young professionals from 60 countries of the world will show their talents in 56 Skills. On 20-24 May, the capital of the Republic of Tatarstan will host the Final of the 7th National Competition “Young Professionals”.
