Festival of professional excellence: SKILLS BAZAAR takes place in Kazan

The host city entered the wind-down period of preparation for the 45th WorldSkills Competition to be held in Kazan and celebrated the year before the start of the “Olympiad of manpower” in August. Skills Bazaar, so-called “Fair of Skills”, was devoted to this event. The Fair took place on 16 September in the Gorkinsko-Ometyevsky Forest.

The Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Tatarstan – Minister of Education and Science Rafis Burganov, Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Tatarstan Leyla Fazleeva, and Technical Director of WorldSkills International Jane Stokie became the guests of the event.  

“Most visitors of the Gorkinsky-Ometyevsky Forest acquired new experience today: by taking part in the master classes, they had a chance to create something with their own hands, to try their hand in this or that profession. The event has a very important message,” Leyla Fazleeva said. According to her, such events may become regular.

“On behalf of WorldSkills International I express gratitude to the Republic of Tatarstan for a wonderful delivery of such an important and essential event. Skills change lives. We are looking forward to seeing you at the 45th WorldSkills Competition that will be held next year in Kazan,” Jane Stokie said.

One of the most popular parks in Kazan turned into a unique arena for demonstrating skills for a few hours on Sunday, where everyone had a chance to take on the role of a florist or carpenter, confectioner or mobile robot technician. Workshops from stylists and make-up artists, art of photography, tuning workshops, radio-controlled cars – participants were able to choose any activity and open new professional fields. Workshops were arranged in 17 different areas. 

The famous Queen of Welding Aleksandra Ivleva was the guest of the Fair. She, in cooperation with the team of “welders-superheroes”, conducted workshops for locals.

“The Queen of Welding is my stage name. I’m a modern artist and my goal is to show people that welding is simple and teachable, and it’s possible to learn the basics of the skill within 15 minutes, and further on to get education and profession,” Aleksandra said. The artist said that she’s been looking for the medium to materialize her ideas and when she discovered welding, she realized that it was “that very method”.

“I create interactive sculptures, public art. I try to take part in educational programmes to show people that welding is really a cool thing and it’s important to overcome stereotypes as our possibilities are limitless. My friends and relatives support me very much because they see that I found my vocation,” Aleksandra Ivleva said.

The team of the Quantorium Technology Park Team (Naberezhnye Chelny) demonstrated the fulfillment of tasks within the skill of “Laser Technologies”. Workshops were conducted by the winners of the WorldSkills Competitions, who told about the laser machine programming and manufacture of various products. Under the guidance of experts from the Kazan Technical School of Information Technologies and Communication, attendees had a chance to learn how to use a robot joypad or observe the process of task-performance.

The best chefs and confectioners from the Association of Cookery Experts of the Republic of Tatarstan, including Rustam Rakhimov, Ruslan Maksimov and Igor Pavlov, taught how to cook perfect filet mignon, seafood in a crispy dough, and told about false éclairs and many other interesting things.

The team of the Kazan Technical School of Arts and Crafts conducted workshops on wood carving and painting, making ceramic products with the help of a potter's wheel.

Visitors had an opportunity to create name bracelets using special hammers. The process occurred under the strict guidance of the master – the owner of the BILBAU workshop Marat Bayramgulov.

The team of Kazan Civil Engineering College organized a workshop on tiling and tile cutting with hand tools.

The team of the Kazan Trade and Economic College conducted workshops on table setting and table etiquette, fruit plate preparation and decoration, secrets of non-alcoholic cocktails, as well as folding napkins.

At the workshop on floristry, visitors had a chance to create their own small floral masterpiece under the guidance of highly-qualified professionals – the winner of the “Young Professionals” (WorldSkills Russia 2017) National Competition within the skill of “Floristry”, the chief florist of the “Oh, My Borsch!” studio Maxim Votyakov, art director, chief florist Daria Dolengovskaya and teacher of the “Dari” flower studio Diana Subhangulova.

Workshops conducted by the team of the Kazan Technical School of Technology and Design gave visitors an opportunity to learn how to make sketches of clothes, unusual necklaces, and brooches. Master and founder of the Stoneberry's natural stone jewelry store Margarita Matyazh demonstrated attendees how to create beautiful accessories by their own hands, and Najia Galimova conducted workshops on making stylish headwear – kalfak.

Representatives of the “GARAGE FACTORY” Industrial Design Studio – one of the most unusual workshops in Kazan – taught attendees how to make unique interior items and accessories from concrete. An architect and designer Timur Zakirov conducted the process.

Masters of object design from Qullar Studio Ilya Badykshanov, Konstantin Maksimov and Alexander Nikolaev explained visitors how to create an interior using unusual objects and materials. During the workshops, attendees learned how to create geometric lighting fixtures from steel rods by welding.

Family workshops took place in the area of Dry Construction and Plastering. Visitors had a chance to take souvenirs made by their own hands – as a reminder of SKILLS BAZAAR. The Head of the Gyprock professional construction area and leading gypsum materials coach from the Saint-Gobain Academy (Moscow) Nikolai Ilnitsky conducted workshops about “Gyprock” and “Weber-Vetonit”.

Beauty workshops were open during the whole day. Demonstration workshops from the International College of Service were conducted by 6 experts and members of the national team of the Republic of Tatarstan on professional skills in accordance with WorldSkills standards within the “Aesthetic Cosmetology” skill. Also, visitors attended workshops arranged by a talented make-up artist and soloist of the “YAMLE” group Veronica Kuznetsova, make-up artist and owner of the STUDIO 13 beauty salon Elena Gilmutdinova. Specialists of the International College of Service performed workshops on designer manicure.

The team of the Professional College №41 told the audience about the basics of studio photography. How to set the light correctly, adjust the camera and shooting angle – participants were able to try themselves as photographers and models. In the same space, the director of the “Vidimy Svet” full cycle studio and famous photographer Timur Shaikhutdinov conducted workshops.

Heads of the MoyaGonka.rf Sports School of Radio-controlled Cars Ravil Garipov and Airat Shakurov arranged lessons on “drift”, “short course”, “buggy”, and “monster trail”. Everyone had a chance to get acquainted with the device of radio-controlled cars presented at the fair.

An individual car tuning was carried out in real-time mode in front of the audience. Visitors were able to witness the whole process. Workshop was conducted by the founder of FriDay Custom Ramil Khadiyatullin.
